Prayer in Action
By: Emily Hunsburger [Guest Article]
Where is the power that used to be in prayer?
Where is Elijah's GOD?
Many would say: "The day of miracles is past.
Things don't happen as in the Bible days."
[Hebrews 13:8] says: "Jesus Christ the same
yesterday and today and forever.
"[Numbers 23:19] "And GOD is not a man that He
should lie."
Then where is the power in prayer that used to
be? The power that caused the earth to quake,
so that the foundation of the prison shook
and the doors came open and every man's bonds
were loosed at the time when Paul and Silas
were bound in stocks. [Acts 16:25]
Oh the joy that must have come that night to
their sad hearts, when prayer was answered.
Paul then had the privilege of baptizing the
jail-keeper.
We could name many more instances but this is
inexhaustible. The power is still here!
What we need is more Elijah's and more, who
like Paul and Silas, believe GOD. We need
more
faith, virtue, obedience, more brotherly
love, and more knowledge, more
denying of
ourselves with more willingness to take up our
cross and follow Jesus. For, if
these things be
in you and abound, they make you "that
ye shall
neither be barren nor unfruitful in the
knowledge of our
LORD Jesus Christ."
[2 Peter 1:8]
There is a reason for the lack of power in
prayer.
Jesus Said in [John 15:7]: "If ye abide in Me
and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye
will and it shall be done unto you."
Again, in [John 14:12]: Jesus Said, "Verily,
Verily I say unto you, he that believeth on Me,
the works that I do shall he do also and
greater works than these shall he do, because I
go unto my Father, and whatsoever ye shall ask
in my Name, that will I do, that the Father may
be glorified in the son."
Yes, He said, "ye shall ask what ye will and it
shall be done". But notice the two conditions.
We must abide In Him and His Word Abide in
us.
"And this is the confidence we have in Him that
if we ask anything according to His will He
heareth us." [1 John 5:14]
"And the prayer of faith shall save the sick
and the LORD shall raise him up, and if he has
committed any sin, they shall be forgiven him.
Confess your faults one to another and pray one
for another that ye may be healed."
"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous
man availeth much." Not a dry, cold, listless
prayer, but, if possible see ourselves
suffering with our brother, or in his stead.
Our prayers that have been sent up with real
compassion are bottled up before GOD. Sometimes
I wonder, of all the prayers that have been
offered, how may have been worthy to enter the
golden vials? [Revelation 5:8]
Elijah was a man subject to like passion as we
are today and he prayed earnestly that it might
not rain "and it rained not on the earth by the
space of three years and six months. And he
prayed again and heaven gave rain and the earth
brought forth her fruit."
David said in [Psalms 66:18] "If I regard
iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear
me.
What is iniquity? Webster says it is
wickedness; injustice; unrighteousness;
anything evil. Shall we say these little
no-harm sins, the little foxes that spoil the
vine?
Now I really believe that we are finding the
reason for slackness of the power in the church
today, iniquity in the heart!
It is those little foxes gnawing on the vine.
They bite the little tender twigs and the bark
from the vine that causes the sap to run
out. When the sap is gone, the vine dies.
Other "foxes" called envy, strife, jealously,
hatred, covetousness, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, and those
over them in the LORD and such like. They are
the beaver-rats that are damming up the very
stream, keeping the prayers from finding their
way into the vial. We cannot abide in Christ
AND hold on to all these things that are
against the doctrines of GOD. We cannot serve
two masters. We are sure to hate the one and
love the other.
So let's clean up the temple. Purge out the old
leaven. "Behold, the LORD'S hand is not
shortened that it cannot save: neither His ear
heavy that it cannot hear: but your iniquities
have separated between you and your GOD."
Let us get back to GOD as in the days of yore.
Let us put on the whole armor of GOD, abide in
Him, and let His Word abide in us. Then we will
see things really move.
We now have just a taste of the things we will
see, if we will be willing to "suffer the loss
of all things, that we may gain Christ”.

If I did not confess to you that this article
was written 44 years ago in 1959, you would
think it was written today. A wonderful
Christian lady that was a member of my church
wrote for my newsletter the article “Prayer in
Action”. As you are well aware we did not have
email in 1959 J so it was a paper newsletter.
I still find this article to be as timely and
important today. Prayer was a great part of the
LORD JESUS CHRIST’S earthly life.
Sister Hunsburger ran her race and has gone on
but her words and prayers live on in the
Breaking Bread enews. We hope you enjoy this
writing and get a glimpse of what was being
written in 1959. Remember no matter what year
it is the Bible will always remain the same,
TRUE. Remember just like belief, love, faith,
doctrine and caring, prayer is an action word.
You are in our prayers here everyday. Remember
the others on the enews when you pray, also.
How much truth does it take to go to heaven?
May GOD Richly and Abundantly Bless You All,

Are you waiting for something? Has your patience
grown thin waiting? Are you tired and weary and
wonder if the wait will ever end? There are many
books and articles about things to do while you
wait. I will tell you this one thing that will
encourage and strengthen you while waiting.
Count your blessings. If you are waiting to pay
at the grocery store be thankful that you not
only have food but the money to pay for it. I
promise you the list of blessings will outlast
any and all waiting. When you get started the
list just keeps on growing. This will set you
on the path to having a thankful mind.
The LORD, who has given us so much, must wonder
when hearing our complaints instead of thanks.
Which would you rather hear from those you love,
constant complaints or the sound of a thank you?
How would you feel if you give good gifts and
hear complaints in return?
The Bible can even help us when we have to wait.
Like the answer to prayer that will come we may
have to wait and be patient. The thing about the
LORD is that we know He heard us the first time.
Time is different with the LORD because what
seems an eternity of waiting to us is only a
microscopic speck in His World. He knows the end
from the beginning. He also knows that we are
waiting.
In the [Book of Daniel, Chapter 10], we have the
account of Daniel praying. In [Verse 2] Daniel
was in prayer and fasting for three full weeks.
Daniel’s answer came in a most unusual way and he
heard these words, “Fear not Daniel: for from the
first day that thou didst set thine heart to
understand, and to chasten thyself before thy GOD,
thy words were heard, and I am come, and I am come
for thy words.”
Wait with patience and also the full belief that an
answer to prayer will come because of your words.
Just as Daniel set his heart [mind] to understand a
matter so should we. That is the key to getting a
Biblical answer to your prayers.
While waiting for an answer to prayer we should
never give up hope. Read the 10th Chapter of Daniel
and it will strengthen and encourage you in a big
way. New light will come on the subject, not only
of waiting, but also of prayer. Take note that
Daniel cared for his nation. His prayer and waiting
was a very serious matter concerning his nation. He
was not in a LORD please give me type prayer for
himself.
Daniel when his prayer was answered did what GOD
instructed him to do. You see when you pray and
then receive an answer you must be willing to do
what GOD tells you in His Word to do. When you pray,
wait and then receive more truth from the Word of
GOD do not reject it. Remember that you prayed to
understand a matter.
Yes, waiting is hard. The one thing we are all
waiting for is the coming of the LORD. Let us wait
with patience while praying, “LORD come quickly.” Now
when the LORD JESUS comes back and says,
“Come
hither” we won’t have to wait. He said, “In the
twinkling of an eye” and that does not sound
as
though we will have to wait in line.
Have a wonderful week ahead and remember wait with
patience and count your blessings with a thankful
mind. What may seem a small blessing to you could
be life or death to someone else. Look up for the
coming of CHRIST is nearer every day. We will wait
and when the time comes He will appear just as He
said He would on time. This is truly worth the wait.
